How do I let students under the age of 18 sign up for Flint using Google SSO?

How a Google Workspace admin approves Flint so students under 18 can use Sign in with Google.

Updated October 6, 2026

If your school uses Google Workspace for Education, users designated as under 18 by the age-based access setting are blocked from using unconfigured third-party apps. So by default, students under 18 may be blocked when they select Sign in with Google on Flint.

A Google Workspace administrator has to approve Flint before those students can get in. Google's own video walks through the screens:

To let students under 18 use Google SSO with Flint:

  1. Have a student designated as under 18 try Sign in with Google on Flint and request access from Google's blocked-app message. The request puts Flint in the Google Admin console's list of apps pending review. An educator can also make a proxy request on the student's behalf.
  2. In the Google Admin console, follow Google's guide, Manage access to unconfigured third-party apps for users designated as under 18. Find Flint among the apps pending review, select Configure access, and select the students' organizational units.
  3. Under Access to Google data, choose Trusted, then Continue. Review your selection and finish the Configure access steps in Google's guide.
  4. Read the Confirm parental consent notice and select Confirm. Google says your organization must obtain parental consent before allowing access where applicable law requires it.

Google says changes can take up to 24 hours, though they usually apply sooner. Once the setting takes effect, students can retry Sign in with Google on Flint.
