By creating an essay assignment on Flint, teachers can provide students with continuous live feedback on their writing and understand exactly how students are using AI as part of the writing process.

To create an essay assignment on Flint, a teacher has to provide:

  • A topic for the essay

  • The time limit for the essay (e.g. 45 minutes)

  • A deadline for the essay

Then, when a teacher clicks the "create" button, AI automatically generates a grading rubric for the essay. Teachers can choose to modify this content.

Once the teacher sends the link of the assignment to a student, the student can get live feedback on their writing from AI with respect to the grading rubric associated with that essay!

Finally, once a student has submitted their essay, the teacher can view the following:

  • An AI suggested grade for the assignment, based on the associated rubric

  • Qualitative comments about strengths and areas of improvement for the student's writing

  • The full transcript of messages between the AI and the student, displayed as comments on the document
