By creating a debate assignment on Flint, teachers have students debate against an AI to explain their understanding of a topic, while receiving personalized feedback when they get stuck.

To create a debate assignment on Flint, a teacher has to provide:

  • A topic for the debate

  • A description of what a successful debate should look like

  • Files or links with any sources that the AI should draw from during the course of the debate (optional)

  • The time limit for the debate (e.g. 15 minutes)

  • A deadline for the debate to be submitted

Then, when the teacher clicks the "create" button, AI automatically generates the underlying prompts as well as the grading rubric for the debate. The teacher can choose to modify this content.

Once the teacher sends the link of the assignment to a student, the student will be able to debate with the AI to demonstrate their understanding of the topic. Every interaction the AI has with the student will be entirely personalized based on the student's responses!

Finally, once a student has completed the debate, the teacher can view the following:

  • An AI suggested grade for the assignment, based on the associated rubric

  • Qualitative comments about strengths and areas of improvement based on the student's points

  • The full transcript of messages between the AI and the student over the course of the debate
