How do I add links to Flint?

Paste a web address into any Flint message box and Flint attaches the page, so Sparky can read it and answer questions about it.

Updated October 13, 2026

There is no separate button for links. Paste a full web address starting with https:// or http:// into a chat or conversational activity session's message box, and Flint attaches the page as a link. Dragging a link onto the message box does the same thing. You can also attach links in the manual activity builder, as described below.

  1. Copy the address of the page you want, from your browser's address bar.
  2. Paste it into the message box. A card for the page appears above what you are typing while Flint reads it.
  3. Type your question in the same message and send it — "summarize this for 7th graders", "what's the author's main claim?".

Paste a paragraph containing several addresses and Flint attaches each page separately, so you can give Sparky a small reading list in one go.

What to expect

  • The page has to be open to the public. Flint opens it as a visitor with no account, so anything behind a paywall, a login or a school firewall will not come through.
  • Flint reads the words on the page, not the pictures on it. If a chart or a photo carries the meaning, save it and attach it as an image instead — Sparky describes images.
  • A link straight to a file works too. An address ending in .pdf, .png or .jpg is read as that file rather than as a web page.
  • YouTube video links are not supported. Some public websites also block Flint's reader. If the attachment shows an error, remove it and attach a downloaded document or paste text you are allowed to use instead.
  • If in doubt, check. After Flint reads the attachment successfully, ask Sparky to summarize the page and see whether the summary matches what you are looking at.

For a Lesson with Sparky, you need Can edit access. Open Edit activity → the activity thumbnail → Activity settings → Activity behavior:

  • Paste the link into Guidelines for Sparky when the page should guide Sparky rather than appear as a student-facing reading attachment.
  • Paste it into Sparky's greeting message when students should see the reading when they begin a session.

Click Update activity to save. These fields have no Send action; their attachments are saved with the activity.

For everything else you can attach to a message, see Uploading content to Flint.
