How to view archived chats and sessions

Archiving keeps a session or chat, it just moves it out of the way. Here are the three places you can go to find one again.

Updated October 6, 2026

Archiving takes a session out of an activity's list, or a chat out of your chats, without deleting it. Nothing is lost, so there are three ways to get back to it: in the activity, on your profile, or through search.

Before using your profile or sidebar search, select the school and term where the work belongs. For older work, see How to view a previous term in Flint. Your access to that term still applies.

In the activity

For a Lesson with Sparky, the filter lives on the Sessions table, which only people who can edit the activity see. File-upload and assessment activities use Submissions and do not have this archive filter.

  1. Click Activities in the sidebar, or open the class the activity belongs to.
  2. Open the activity.
  3. Scroll to the Sessions table at the bottom of the activity page.
  4. Click the Sessions heading above the table. It is a dropdown with three options: Sessions (the default, non-archived sessions visible to you), My sessions (your non-archived sessions) and Archived sessions.
  5. Choose Archived sessions, then click the session you want.

This recording shows the previous sidebar and activity layout. The Sessions, My sessions and Archived sessions dropdown options are still current.

If you are taking part in the activity rather than running it, you see a Your sessions list instead, and it leaves archived sessions out. Use your profile or search below.

On your profile

Your profile shows your activity chat sessions and standalone chats in the selected term. Students can use the archive filters here to find their own archived work.

  1. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
  2. Click My profile.
  3. Pick the Sessions or Chats tab.

The recordings show an older profile with sessions and chats in columns. The current profile uses Sessions and Chats tabs. The search recordings also show an older, separate search window; current profile search fields search only your work in the selected archive filter. Follow the written steps below.

Each of those tabs shows only your own sessions and chats, not anyone else's.

Archived sessions

The heading above the list is a dropdown. Click My sessions and choose My archived sessions, then open the one you want. Archived rows are marked with an Archived badge.

You can also type into the Search sessions box on that tab. It searches whichever filter you have chosen, so switch to My archived sessions first if you only want archived ones.

The older search window shown here could include other people's sessions and did not use the profile's archive filter. In the current Sessions tab, choose My archived sessions before using Search sessions.

Archived chats

The Chats tab lists your standalone chats outside classes. Click the My chats heading, choose My archived chats, and open the chat you want. For an archived class chat, use sidebar Search in the correct term instead.

There is a Search chats box on that tab too. Choose My archived chats first to search your archived standalone chats.

This older search window mixed active and archived results. The current Search chats field uses the archive filter you selected on the Chats tab.

  1. Click Search in the sidebar.
  2. Type the name of the session or chat.
  3. Click the result you want.

Sidebar search covers sessions and standalone or class chats you can access in the selected term, including archived items. Search lists archived items last — so scroll to the bottom if you cannot see what you are after.

Once you have opened it

An archived session or chat opens with a banner across the top saying when it was archived. If you have permission to change that work, click Unarchive, then Yes in the confirmation dialog to return it to the normal list. Someone else's direct class chat is view-only; ask its creator to restore it. The Unarchive button is not offered while the activity or class it belongs to is itself archived.

For who can archive what, and how archiving differs from deleting, see Archiving and deleting sessions.
