Flint does not allow users to permanently delete individual chats or chat history. This article explains why, what you can do instead, and how to handle data removal requests.
Why chat deletion is restricted
Flint is designed for school environments where student interactions with AI are subject to educator oversight, compliance requirements, and safety policies. Retaining chat history allows:
Student safety - moderation and flagging systems depend on having access to conversation history.
Administrators and teachers to audit student conversations - all interactions are logged and reviewable to ensure appropriate use.
Compliance with school and district data policies - many schools and states have requirements around retaining and auditing student data.
Because of these requirements, permanently deleting chat data is not available as a self-service action for students, teachers, or admins.
What you can do instead: archiving
You can archive chats to remove them from your active view without permanently deleting them. Archived chats are still accessible to you and to anyone with admin or owner-level access to your workspace.
To archive a chat:
Open the chat you want to archive.
Click the three-dot menu at the top of the chat.
Select Archive.
To view your archived chats, go to My profile → My chats → switch the dropdown to My archived chats. You can also use Search and scroll to the bottom of results, since archived items appear last.
Important: what archiving does and doesn't do
✅ Archiving removes the chat from your default view so it no longer appears in your active chat list.
✅ Archived chats remain accessible to you through your profile.
❌ Archiving does not delete the chat data. It remains stored and visible to workspace administrators.
❌ Archiving does not remove the chat from moderation logs or admin audit views.
Requesting data removal for compliance reasons
If your school has a specific compliance or legal reason to have student data removed from Flint, such as a GDPR or FERPA request, please contact our support team directly. Include the following in your message:
The name and email address of the student or user whose data needs to be removed.
Your school or workspace name.
The legal basis for the request (e.g., GDPR Article 17 right to erasure, FERPA request from a parent).
