Adding a Direct Link to Flint in Canvas

Add a Flint link to your Canvas course navigation with Canvas's Redirect Tool and open Flint in a new tab.

Updated October 6, 2026

Flint signs people in with Google or Microsoft, but there is no Canvas single sign-on. You can put a Flint link in your Canvas course navigation with Canvas's Redirect Tool, so students and teachers do not have to hunt for the address.

You can still import your Canvas rosters into Flint — that is a separate setup an admin does once.

Use a Canvas teacher or admin account with permission to edit the course and add apps. If Apps or the Redirect Tool is unavailable, ask your Canvas administrator. Students still sign in to Flint with their own accounts. Before sharing a specific class or activity link, give students access in Flint; adding a Canvas tab does not grant access or import rosters.

  1. In your Canvas course, click Settings in the course navigation.
  2. Open the Apps tab.
  3. Search for Redirect and select the Redirect Tool.
  4. Click +Add App.
  5. Fill in the app:
    • Name: what the tab should say, for example Go to Flint.
    • URL Redirect: the Flint address you want to open — https://app.flintk12.com for the home page, or the link to a specific class or activity.
    • Show in Course Navigation: tick this so the tab appears.
    • Force open in new tab: tick this. Flint cannot load inside a Canvas frame, so the link must open outside Canvas.
  6. Click Add App.
  7. To move the tab, go to the Navigation tab in Settings, drag it where you want it, and click Save at the bottom of the page.

The tab now appears in the course navigation. Canvas may ask students to select Open in New Tab after clicking the link. If students are not signed in to Flint, they sign in next.
