Folders group related activities inside a class, so a term's worth of material reads as units rather than one long list.
Every folder belongs to a class. There are no folders that sit outside a class, and a folder cannot hold another folder.
Create a folder
- Open the class and select Activities in the class sidebar.
- Select New Folder above the activity list. If the class has no activities yet, select Create folder in the empty-state panel instead.
- Give the folder a name and select Create.

The four recordings on this page predate the current design: the button beside New Folder now reads Create activity rather than "New Activity", and folders appear above Recent activities rather than as expandable rows. Follow the written steps, including the class-access confirmation when moving a restricted activity into a folder.
Folder names have to be unique within a class — if you already have a Unit 1, Flint asks you to pick another name.
Put activities in a folder
Either way works, from the list view or the grid:
- Drag the activity onto the folder. A tooltip confirms which folder you are dropping it into.
- Or select the three dots (Activity actions) on the activity, choose Move to folder, and pick the folder.
If moving the activity would broaden access, Flint asks Give the class access to this activity? Confirm only if everyone in the folder's class should have access. Moving it into the folder makes it open to that class.

To take an activity back out, select its three dots and choose Remove from folder. The activity returns to the class's main activity list; it is not deleted. Removing it does not restore any access restrictions it had before the move — review Share activity if it should be restricted again.
Select a folder to see only its activities. Select Recent activities or the selected folder again to return to all activities.
Rename a folder
- Select the three dots (Folder actions) on the folder.
- Choose Rename folder.
- Enter the new Folder name and select Rename.

Delete a folder
- Select the three dots (Folder actions) on the folder.
- Choose Delete folder.
- If the folder holds activities, choose what happens to them:
- Delete folder only, moving n activities back to the class — the activities stay in the class, just no longer grouped.
- Delete folder and n activities — the activities are deleted too, along with their sessions. This cannot be undone.
- Type the folder's name to confirm, then select Yes.
An empty folder skips step 3 and simply asks you to confirm.

The folder in this recording is empty, so it shows the shorter dialog. If yours holds activities you will see the two choices in step 3 before the confirmation box.
Who can use folders
- Creating, renaming, and deleting folders needs Can edit access to the class.
- Moving an activity into a folder needs Can edit access to both the activity and the folder's class. If Move to folder is missing or no folders are available, ask a class editor for access.
- Everyone who can see the class sees its folders.
- Folders have no access settings of their own: moving an activity into one gives everyone in its class access, and removing it does not undo that change. Check Share activity on the activity itself if you need to restrict access. See How can I change the access permissions of an activity in Flint?.
