Groups
Groups in Flint can be classes, clubs, or other organizations.
Groups in Flint can be made by anyone. Whoever makes the group becomes an owner of the group. (Find more on the distinction between owners and members here.)
An owner of a group can add new owners and members to the group, create tutors, and view all sessions with tutors that are created.
A member can view public groups and activities within the group, or private and unlisted groups if they made them or were invited to them. All members can create groups and activities within the group.
An owner can also set the group's default tutor, shown on the group page, along with other group settings.
Activities
Activities are AI-powered learning activities that can act as assistants, assignments, practice buddies, or more. Some possible use cases for tutors include:
Assess students' understanding of a new topic and give an overview of who knows what
Practice speaking 1-on-1 in any language
Help students with extra learning (24/7 study sessions before a test)
Give students immediate feedback on their writing
Every member of a group can see and interact with:
Public activities in the group
Unlisted activities they are invited to or given the link to
Private activities they are invited to
Choosing between chat and essay activities
Activities come in two types: chat tutors and essay tutors.
"Chat" activities involve a back-and-forth between the tutor and the student. It offers an engaging and dynamic way of assessing knowledge and learning new material, through prompting students to apply their knowledge and explain their reasoning.
"Essay" activities work with students to answer their questions and help them refine their writing when asked. The goal is to guide students through the essay-writing and argument-forming process.
Sessions
A session (formerly submission) is a single instance or interaction that a member has with an activity. A given member can have multiple sessions with an activity, unless the activity's owner sets a deadline or time restriction.
