Sending grades from Flint to your LMS

Pilot: send students' activity grades from Flint to Canvas, Google Classroom or Schoology, choose the LMS grade category, and read each grade's send status.

Updated November 2, 2026

Flint can send the grades from an activity straight to the matching class in Canvas, Google Classroom or Schoology. Students then see those grades in your LMS, and you don't have to copy them across by hand.

Who can use it

Sending grades is a pilot. Flint staff turn it on separately for each LMS connection, so most schools don't see it yet. If your school isn't in the pilot, Flint looks the same as before, and you can still download grades with Download as CSV in the gradebook.

To join the pilot, ask your Customer Success contact or email support@flintk12.com. Before Flint can turn sending on, your school has to have imported its classes from that LMS connection, so Flint can match each Flint class to its class in the LMS. See importing users and classes from an LMS or SIS.

Once sending is on, you can send grades for an activity when:

  • you have Can edit access to the activity or class,
  • the activity belongs to a class that was imported from that LMS, and
  • the activity has a grading rubric. See using rubrics in Flint.

Send grades for an activity

You can start from the activity or from the gradebook. Both open the same window.

  1. Open the activity and click Send grades to LMS at the top right of the Submissions section. Or open your class's Gradebook and click Send to LMS in the activity's column header. A number on the button counts the grades that aren't in your LMS yet.
  2. Read the summary in the window. Its title names your LMS, for example Send grades to Canvas, and it says how many grades Flint will send. Students without a grade yet are skipped.
  3. The first time you send an activity's grades, choose the LMS grade category (see below).
  4. Click Send followed by the number of grades, for example Send 24 grades. Keep the window open while Flint shows how many it has sent.
  5. When Grades sent appears, click Done.

Flint sends each student's newest graded attempt as a score out of 100 points. The first send adds an assignment with the activity's name to the class in your LMS. Its due date is the activity's deadline if that is still ahead, or otherwise the end of the school day of the first send.

Choose the LMS grade category

The first time you send grades for an activity, Flint asks for the grade category in your LMS, such as Classwork or Tests. Pick one from Choose a category, and the assignment counts with that category's weight in your LMS. If a category in your LMS has the same name as the activity's grade weight category in Flint, Flint selects it for you.

If the class in your LMS has no categories, Flint adds the assignment to the LMS's default category.

After the first send, Flint keeps the same category. To move the assignment to another category, change it in your LMS.

Check where each grade stands

Once sending is on, a badge appears beside each student's grade in the activity's Submissions table and in the gradebook:

  • Sent to LMS: the grade is in your LMS. Hover over the badge to see when Flint sent it.
  • Not sent to LMS: the grade isn't in your LMS yet.
  • LMS out of date: the grade changed in Flint after Flint sent it. Send grades again to update your LMS.
  • LMS send failed: Flint couldn't send the grade. Click the badge to see why.

On narrower screens, the badge shows only an icon. Hover over it to see what it means.

The badge belongs to the attempt Flint sends, the student's newest graded attempt. If you choose an older attempt in the gradebook, no badge shows for it.

Send again

Click Send grades to LMS or Send to LMS again whenever grades change or new work is graded. Flint sends only the grades your LMS doesn't have yet: new grades, changed grades and grades that failed. Grades already in your LMS stay as they are. If every grade is already there, Flint tells you so and there is nothing to send.

If a grade doesn't send

Flint tells you why, both in the window after you send and when you click an LMS send failed badge. To try again, click the retry button in the window, for example Retry 2 grades, or send grades again later.

  • Your LMS didn't respond. Retry in a few minutes.
  • Flint couldn't find this student in the class in your LMS. Check the student is in that class in your LMS. A student added there today can be sent after Flint's next sync.
  • The assignment was deleted in your LMS. Click Create it again and send, and Flint adds the assignment back and sends the grades to it.

If a grade keeps failing after you retry, Flint offers Report the issue. Clicking it opens a message to Flint support with the activity and the students affected, so our team can look into it.
