Trouble signing in to Flint? Common login errors explained

Fixes for the most common Flint sign-in problems — duplicate accounts, landing in the wrong school, sign-in loops, and expired verification links.

Updated October 6, 2026

If you're having trouble signing in to Flint, this article covers the most common problems and how to resolve them.

How Flint decides how you sign in

At app.flintk12.com you can click Sign in with Google or Sign in with Microsoft, or type your school email address and click Next.

If you click Next, Flint looks up your address and sends you to the right place:

  • If your account is linked to Google or Microsoft, Flint takes you straight to that sign-in.
  • If your account has a Flint password, you get a password screen.
  • If there's no account yet, you get a form to create one.

So you rarely have to guess which method to use — enter your school email address and let Flint route you.

Flint says your email address is already registered

This means an account already exists for that address, so there's nothing to create. Go back to app.flintk12.com, type the same address, and click Next to be sent to whichever method that account uses.

Tip: Use your school email address, not a personal one. If you're sent to a password screen and can't remember the password, click Forgot password?. Enter the six-digit code emailed to you on the reset page, then choose and confirm a new password. See How to change your Flint password for changing it once you're back in.

You land in "your name's school" instead of your school

If you have no school to join, Flint asks your role and what you want to do before setting up a personal school named after you. Your actual school's content lives somewhere else, so that personal school looks empty. Students who choose I have a join code from my teacher enter the code and join the teacher's activity without creating a personal school.

To switch:

  1. Sign in at app.flintk12.com with your school email address.
  2. Click the school name in the top-left corner of the sidebar.
  3. Under Schools, choose your school.

If your school isn't in that list, your account hasn't been added to it yet. Ask an admin at your school to add your email address — Inviting students, teachers and admins to my school shows them how.

The same menu has a Terms section, which is how you move between the current term and past ones.

You're stuck in a sign-in loop

Being sent back to the sign-in page over and over usually means your browser is holding a broken session. To fix it:

  1. Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then close and reopen the browser.
  2. Try again in a private or incognito window — that rules out extensions and cached data.
  3. On an iPad, check that Safari or Chrome is updated to the latest version. Out-of-date browsers cause most of these.
  4. Try a different browser, or a different device on a different network, to narrow down where the problem is.

Verification links expire, and each one can only be used once. If yours no longer works, Flint tells you: "Your email verification link may have expired or already been used. Please try signing in again to receive a new link."

For an unverified email-and-password account:

  1. Go back to app.flintk12.com, enter the email address you signed up with, and click Next.
  2. Enter the password you chose and submit the sign-in form. Flint sends a new verification email if the account still needs confirmation; Next alone does not send one.
  3. Use the newest verification email. If the email hasn't arrived after a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder and the inbox for the exact address you signed up with.

Signing in with Google or Microsoft does not send a Flint verification email through this password flow.

If Flint's emails are being blocked at your school, ask your IT team to allow them.

Still can't get in?

Sorry — let us help. From a device where you are signed in, click Learn more about Flint at the bottom of the left sidebar and then Help. If you can't get in at all, ask a colleague to pass the message on. Tell us:

  • The email address you're trying to sign in with.
  • The exact message you see on screen.
  • The browser and device you're using.
