Sometimes you want to use Flint with people who don't have an email address at your school — conference attendees, staff and students from another organization at a hackathon, or parents in your wider community. The cleanest way is to create a second school for them.
A new school does not automatically share activities, sessions or rosters with your existing one. To reuse activities privately, switch to the destination school, open Activities and select Import activities. In Import content, choose the source school and term, select the activities, and choose Duplicate activities. The originals and their sessions stay where they are. See moving and duplicating activities across schools and terms.
Publish to the public library only when you want to make an activity publicly reusable — see everything you can do with activities.
Create the school
- Click your school's name at the top of the sidebar.
- Choose Create a school under Schools.
- Fill in the first step: a Name such as "Orchard Academy Parents" or "NAIS Conference", and, if you like, a Logo and a Color. Click Next.
- On the second step, set Access permissions:
- Anyone with the link lets anyone who has the link join the school, which suits a conference or a one-off event.
- Private means only the people you add can get in.
- Add Mission and background if you want Sparky to know the context — who the group is and what you are doing together. You can also turn the AI-image and AI-slide watermarks on or off here.
- Click Save.

This recording is from when the form was a single window called "New Workspace". Creating a school is now the two-step page described above. The recording's Plan selector and Trial setting are not offered in normal self-service creation.
If Create a school isn't in the menu, your account isn't allowed to create one — for example, when your email domain belongs to a centrally managed Flint school. Ask us through the Help option in the sidebar.
Add the people
Flint drops you straight into the new school's People settings, which is where you invite everyone:
- Add people takes email addresses or a CSV file.
- Add domain lets anyone with an email address at that domain join with the role you pick — handy when a partner school is joining you.
The full steps are in inviting students, teachers, and admins to my school. Give guests the Student role unless they need to build activities.
Before you invite anyone
A school you create through the normal self-service form starts on the Free plan with its own 80-seat allowance; your existing school's paid or trial plan does not automatically carry over. Contact Flint about more seats or a different plan before organizing a larger event.
Under Admin → Settings → Moderation, set the Content moderators for the new school. Moderators get the email alerts for flagged student messages, and the list starts with you, so add anyone else who should be watching. This matters most when the group includes minors.
To move between your schools afterwards, use the school switcher at the top of the sidebar.
