Any messages sent in Flint that are flagged for self-harm will trigger email notifications. Self-harm moderators are the people who will receive these emails.

Both the workspace moderator(s) and group moderator(s) will be emailed if a self-harm message is flagged in a session within the group. If the session happens within an activity or chat outside of a group, the notification will only go to the workspace moderator(s).

Schools have often added their administrators or counseling staff as moderators. Here's how you can add or edit who at your school is receiving these emails.

When you create a workspace or group within a workspace, you can designate moderators in the sharing step. You can also update these moderators in the "Manage Members" and "Share Group" settings, respectively, as shown in the next sections.

Note: Only admins in the workspace and only owners of groups can be given moderator status. This is because moderators need to be able to view all activity in the group, so they need to be given roles with more access first.

Changing workspace moderators

In the sidebar, click on "Settings & members", then "Manage members".

Note: the "Settings & members" button will only be visible to people with an admin role in Flint. Please contact your workspace admin to go through these steps or add you as an owner if you cannot see the settings option.

Add or remove moderators using the shield icon

Any current moderators will have a solid shield icon next to their name in the members list. Clicking on an existing shield will remove their moderator status.

Hovering over another admin's name gives you the option to click on and add a shield next to their name. This adds them as a moderator in the workspace.

Changing group moderators

On the group page, click "Share group".

The "Share group" button brings you to the panel to manage members of the group.

Add or remove moderators using the shield icon

In the members list, owners of the group can add and remove moderators in a way similar to how workspace moderators are managed in the previous section. You can click on existing shields to remove that group owner's status as a moderator and you can add shields next to other group owners' names whom you want to designate as additional moderators.
