Groups are the best way to organize access to activities for different groups of users in Flint. By creating a group for each class you teach, club you lead, etc., you can create a space to put activities you'd like to share with a designated subset of people in your workspace.
Groups can be automatically created to align with rosters through an LMS/SIS import, but sometimes you might want to create additional groups. This guide will show you how.
You can create top-level, standalone groups in Flint or you can make subgroups within existing groups.
Standalone groups can be made via the sidebar on your homepage, the "My activities" page, or on an existing group page.
Subgroups can be made via the page of the existing group. The existing groups you've made/joined can be found in the sidebar on the homepage. You can also move groups to be nested under a parent group after creating it by adjusting the "Share group" settings, as shown later in this guide.
First, click "+ Add" in the sidebar and "Create in..."
This button is located next to the "Groups" label in the sidebar. Again, you can navigate to a group page first if you want to make a subgroup.
Add your group's name, description, and learning goals
The name and description are useful for group members to know what the group is about. The "Learning goals and background" is not visible to group members; rather, it is used by Flint as context about the group to communicate with group members more effectively. For more, see our guide on inputting group-level background info.
Click "Create"
Share the group
Once you've created your group, you can share it by either:
Copying the link and sending that to students/group members
Adding member names/emails directly
This is also where you can change the parent group of the activity to make it nested under another activity.
You can also add other owners to a group. This might make sense for co-teachers or colleagues teaching similar classes. Just add that individual as a member and then upgrade them to an owner in the member list.
