In Flint, there are three types of user roles: admins, teachers, and students. These roles are set by the workspace admin. If you believe your role needs to be changed, please send this guide to your administrator. You can copy the link for it below:
Why change user roles?
It's important to make sure your students and teachers are labeled with the correct roles in Flint. This is how Flint will know how to treat them—being more helpful to teachers and acting like a responsible teaching assistant to students. This guide will show how to change roles in bulk and individually.
How to assign roles
Any admin of a workspace can assign and edit roles. There are three different ways to assign these roles.
1. LMS/SIS Rostering
If your school is completely new to Flint, the quickest way to assign roles is through a rostering integration with your LMS or SIS provider. Here is a guide on that.
Users with no role assigned can be assigned roles if their roles are included in a new import. However, roles that you have assigned manually will not be overridden by future imports.
2. Assigning unassigned roles
Some members of your workspace might not have their role assigned. Unassigned roles will be treated like students until you designate them otherwise.
You can assign unassigned roles in bulk by going to "Settings & members" and "Manage members".
Within the members panel, you'll see an orange notice with the option to assign all the unassigned roles to either student, teacher, or admin.
The members list will be updated accordingly based on which role you select. You can go in and change individual roles as well. Remember to click "Update" to save your changes.
3. Changing individual roles
After going to "Settings & members" and "Manage members", you can click on individual's roles to change them.
You can also paste in a comma-separated list of emails and change their roles all at once.
Once you're happy with all your changes, you can click "Update", and you'll be given the option to send emails to invite them to the workspace.
