In Flint, there are three types of user roles: admins, teachers, and students. These roles are set by the workspace admin. If you believe your role needs to be changed, please send this guide to your administrator. You can copy the link for it below:
Why change user roles?
It's important to make sure your students and teachers are labeled with the correct roles in Flint. This is how Flint will know how to treat them—being more helpful to teachers and acting like a responsible teaching assistant to students. This guide will show how to change roles in bulk and individually.
How to assign roles
Any admin of a workspace can assign and edit roles. There are three different ways to assign these roles.
LMS/SIS Rostering
LMS/SIS Rostering
If your school is completely new to Flint, the quickest way to assign roles is through a rostering integration with your LMS or SIS provider. Here is a guide on that.
Users with no role assigned can be assigned roles if their roles are included in a new import. However, roles that you have assigned manually will not be overridden by future imports.
Bulk assigning unassigned roles
Bulk assigning unassigned roles
Some members of your workspace might not have their role assigned. Unassigned roles will be treated like students until you designate them otherwise.
You can assign unassigned roles in bulk by going to "Settings & members".
Go to "Settings & members"
Click on "Members"
You will see an orange box with unassigned members
You can assign all unassigned members to either student, teacher, or admin
Click "update" to save changes
Bulk uploading and assigning roles
Bulk uploading and assigning roles
On top of bulk assigning roles to those who don't have roles, you can upload and assign roles at the same time. For example, if you have 5 new students to your school, you can add them to Flint and assign them roles in one go.
Here's how you can do it
Go to "Settings & members"
Click on "Members"
Copy and paste or type in the users' emails to the "Members" box
Assign them a role and Update to save changes
Changing individual roles

You can also update individual roles. For example, if a teacher has moved to an admin role, you can update that in your "Settings & members" tab.
Go to "Settings & members"
Click on "Members"
Scroll down to find the user or type the user name's into the Members box
Select the new role in the dropdown next to the user's name
