Congratulations — your school has partnered with Flint, and we're thrilled to have you on board. This guide walks you through the key steps to get set up quickly and confidently.
Have a question at any point? In the sidebar, select Learn more about Flint, then Help, to message our team.
Step 1: Get teachers and students into Flint
Everyone signs in at app.flintk12.com with their school account. As a school admin, you control who gets in, what role they have, and what they can see.
These setup steps require staff school or term ownership, not just an Admin label. Admins normally receive term ownership; teacher-labelled creators can manage the school too. Student owners have restricted settings. See Roles in Flint.
There are two ways to get people connected.
🔁 Option 1: Connect your SIS or LMS (recommended)
Importing rosters from your student information system or learning management system — Blackbaud, Canvas, Google Classroom, Schoology and many others — does the most work for you:
- After you review and complete the import, teachers' classes appear with their imported enrollments
- Grade levels supplied by your source come across; check roles and grade levels before importing
- Nobody has to build a class list by hand
Review whether imported classes should be published or saved as drafts, and whether to enable automatic roster sync. The rostering guide covers those choices; connecting the provider alone does not complete the import.
🛠 Option 2: Add people directly
Prefer to start small, or don't use an LMS? Go to Admin → Settings → People and either:
- Select Add people to paste in email addresses or upload a CSV, and give each person a role; or
- Select Add domain to let anyone with a school email address —
@yourschool.org— sign in with the right role already applied, without an individual invite.
Review the people or domain and their roles, then select Save on the People page and confirm. Additions do not take effect until saved. Sending invitation emails is a separate optional step after access is saved.

Step 2: Provide training for teachers
We offer free and flexible training, whether it's self-guided or a full staff PD session.
All paid Flint licenses include on-demand PD at no extra cost. If you'd like help building a custom rollout plan, select Learn more about Flint → Help in the sidebar and tell us what you're planning.
Built-in AI-literacy training and staff tracking
On the US deployment, Flint also offers a self-guided AI-literacy course and certification. It is not available on the UK deployment; people who belong only to schools as students are excluded from the educator course.
With term ownership, open Admin → Professional development → AI literacy course to review teachers' and admins' progress and completion, send course invitation or reminder emails, and download a CSV. Tracking access follows ownership, so a teacher who created the school can use it too.
🎯 Extra resources and inspiration
- 🧠 Use case library: ELA, social studies, science, CS, math, world languages
- 🔥 Campfire Sessions calendar: themed, interactive webinars for teachers
- 💬 Community board: where teachers connect, share and plan together
Step 3: Review the admin guides
Set your school's mission and background, and optionally import policy files under Admin → Settings → AI policy, then Save. Processed documents give Sparky retrievable context; they do not guarantee policy adherence or replace moderation and access settings.
