Flint is free for teachers to use with their students. Everything you do in a class works on every plan, and students are unlimited. The school plan adds features for running Flint across a whole school: school-wide analytics, some school settings, and more than 3 teachers and admins.
Free on every plan
Everything in a class is free:
- Activities, sessions, chats with Sparky and the class Gradebook.
- Class Analytics, including the class's real Alignment data. See Detailed class analytics in Flint.
- Flagged messages in your class. The Inappropriate messages card on the class Overview shows them, and Sparky's daily brief mentions them.
Safety across the whole school is also free. On every plan, admins see every message Sparky flags across the school, and they can use the school's Moderation settings. See Moderation in Flint.
These school settings are free too:
- Grade-level prompts and watermarks on AI-generated images in Sparky customizations.
- Access permissions, Timezone and Students can create classes in Access.
There is no limit on students. The old limit of 80 seats is gone.
Teachers and admins on the free plan
A free workspace can have 3 teachers and admins. People with the Student role don't count toward the limit, and neither does anyone from the Flint team who joins to help you.
Admins see how many spots are left at the top of Admin › People. For example: "You can add 1 more teacher or admin. The free plan allows 3 teachers and admins, and unlimited students." See Inviting students, teachers, and admins to my school in Flint for how to add people.
When saving would add a fourth teacher or admin, Flint doesn't save the change. The window changes to This is part of the school plan and explains: "Sorry, the free plan allows 3 teachers and admins, so we couldn't add another. Everyone already here keeps their access, and the workspace's admins can upgrade to the school plan."
If your workspace already had more than 3 teachers and admins, from a trial or from before the limit, everyone keeps their access. You can still change roles and remove people. To add more teachers or admins, upgrade to the school plan.
What the school plan adds
On the free plan, a crown 👑 marks each school plan feature. Hover over the crown to see "This is a school plan feature".
School-wide analytics
School analytics for the whole school are part of the school plan. On the free plan, Admin › Analytics shows the real charts filled with sample data, so you can see what you'd get. See School Analytics in Flint for what each page shows.
- Usage and Outcomes carry a crown in the admin sidebar. A notice at the top of each page starts with "This is sample data."
- Alignment shows your school's real Inappropriate messages first. Below them, a notice says "The sections below are sample data. Alignment insights for the whole school are part of the school plan."
Analytics for each class stay free.
School settings
These settings in Admin › Settings are part of the school plan:
- Mission and background in Sparky customizations. See Providing your school's mission and background to Flint.
- Allowed IP ranges in Access. See Restricting Flint usage to school grounds.
- Limit access hours in Access, including access hours for grade levels. See Limiting school access hours.
- The AI policy page.
- The SIS and LMS page: importing people and classes from your SIS or LMS, and automatic sync. See Importing users and classes from an LMS or SIS in Flint.
- School email domains in People. On the free plan, Add domain isn't there.
Settings you already set up keep working
A school that set up these settings on a trial or the school plan keeps them on the free plan. The notice at the top of a settings page says: "Settings marked with 👑 are part of the school plan. Anything you already set up keeps working, and you can remove it. To change or add these, upgrade to the school plan."
- Mission and background, Allowed IP ranges and access hours stay in place, and you can remove each one. Once you remove one of these settings, you can't add it back on the free plan.
- AI policies you already added keep working, and you can remove them.
- Your SIS and LMS connections stay. You can turn off automatic sync or delete a connection. Scheduled syncs pause on the free plan and start again after you upgrade.
- Your school email domains keep working, and you can remove them. A domain's role menu offers only its current role and Remove access.
Everything else the school plan includes
The Upgrade window lists everything the school plan includes:
- Comprehensive school-wide analytics
- Unlimited teachers and admins
- More powerful AI models across chats, activities, and insights
- Support for larger file uploads and expanded AI context
- SIS/LMS integration
- Advanced content moderation
- A dedicated customer success manager for onboarding and continued support
How Sparky talks about the school plan
When a teacher or admin in a free school asks Sparky for something that's part of the school plan, such as usage numbers for the whole school, Sparky says so. Sparky offers to do the same thing for one of your classes, and adds the link Explore the school plan, which opens the list of what the school plan includes.
Who sees school plan prompts
- A free school has no plan card in the sidebar. Teachers meet the school plan only when they reach a school plan feature or the limit of 3 teachers and admins.
- Students never see plan prompts, even in a workspace they created themselves.
- A school on a trial has everything in the school plan. Its admins see a Trial mode card in the sidebar with "Explore your trial benefits."
Getting the school plan
- Click Upgrade on any school plan notice, or Explore the school plan in a Sparky reply. A window opens with the title This is part of the school plan and lists what the school plan includes.
- Click Contact sales to book a call with the Flint team.
If you aren't one of your school's admins, the window says: "To upgrade, ask your school's admins, or contact our team yourself."
